I’m happy to start with my painting lessons again. Last week, I’ve had my first lesson on a new location. Professional painter Bryan Rietman still is my teacher. His new studio is actually a classroom in an old school building. Making studio’s and gallery spaces in old empty buildings, is a great way for a city to stimulate the creativity of its inhabitants.
During the lesson, I started with a new study of a painting of John Singer Sargent. You can really learn a lot of the way how this guy worked. I think it’s fun to post a little iPhone photo of my unfinished Sargent study. You can see below what I painted in less than one hour. When I’m starting with a new painting, I always try to focus on shapes and lines rather than details.
